Snell & Wilcox Announces Integration of Kahuna Production Switcher With EVS XT[2] Production Server
Switcher’s Direct Control of Multi-Format Server Assets Paves the Way for Seamless Integration of Multiple Content Streams
--
HAMPSHIRE, U.K. — June 24, 2008 — Snell & Wilcox today announced that its Kahuna SD/HD multi-format production switcher is now fully integrated with the EVS XT[2] production server. The Kahuna-EVS integration enables the switcher to control all channels of the XT[2] server, giving operators smooth and seamless access to multiple content streams.?
EVS, the recognized leader in digital video systems for live and near-live production, views the integrated XT[2]-Kahuna system as a critical link in the production workflow of a mobile vehicle or studio for delivering high-quality content to air. With Kahuna directly controlling the XT[2] server, operators can access video clips and apply frame-accurate key and fill animations and other effects without having to go through a separate control system. With its multi-format SD/HD capability, Kahuna can mix existing SD camera feeds, graphics, handheld shots, and archive footage from the XT[2] server directly into an HD broadcast without the need for outbound upconversion equipment.?
"As media companies worldwide continue the transition to HD broadcasting, we are there to support them through the integration with best-in-breed technologies — and Kahuna is the gold standard of production switchers," said Fred Garroy, general manager of EVS Americas. "As a complementary extension of our XT[2] server, Kahuna smoothes the way for our users to access and deliver any type of content to air for HD broadcast."?
"The world's leading broadcasters have consistently chosen EVS servers for their outstanding slow-motion capabilities and unmatched picture quality, reactivity, reliability, and versatility. EVS is a leader in live production, particularly for sports broadcasting, a market in which we’ve had tremendous success with Kahuna. Therefore, the XT[2] is a logical choice to join our portfolio of third-party solutions that interoperate with Kahuna," said Joe Zaller, vice president of corporate development at Snell & Wilcox. "We value our long and successful working relationship with EVS and this opportunity to give our joint customers a more seamless path to high-quality HD production."
About Kahuna
Kahuna from Snell & Wilcox is the world's first and only true multi-format SD/HD production switcher. Thanks to a Snell & Wilcox technology called FormatFusion, Kahuna enables simultaneous SD and HD operations in the same mainframe and on the same control panel. This vastly simplifies the HDTV transition for broadcasters by eliminating the need for external HDTV up/down/cross converters in the live production environment, as well as the cost and the signal path delay associated with these products. Kahuna has the smallest size mainframe, lowest weight, and lowest power consumption when compared with other large switchers; and it has been integrated with dozens of third-party products including routers, servers, automation systems, and controllers.
